Ryan's algebra reflection term 3

Algebra Rubric Term 3 2021     Name: Ryan Phillips.  👍👍👍👍

Criteria

Level 2 (5)

Early Level 3

Level 3

Level 4

Algebraic patterns

Explain the rule for a sequential pattern.

Describe the rules for number patterns

Use tables and graphs to describe rules number patterns

Find rules and formulas for number patterns

My Algebra goals: My goal is to know how to use a table and  to know what the next number in the pattern is.

Goal

Success Criteria (This is what it will look like when I get there)

I need to explain what the next term of a spatial pattern will be. Eg

To achieve this goal I can say which is the next number, shape or character in the pattern or I know what the next number or shape will be in the next part of the sequence. Eg the next creature is a butterfly. The next pattern will have four triangles.etc.

I can describe what must happen for the next pattern. For example

To achieve this goal I can say what is happening in the patterns eg You add two matches each time to make the next pattern in the sequence. It is going up by 2 each time starting from 3.

need a strategy to continue a pattern without drawing or building every one.I

To achieve this goal I will have a strategy such as a table I can use to work out how many matchsticks there will be needed to make 10 triangles.

Triangles

1

2

3

4

5

Matches

3

5

7

9

11

Each time the difference gets bigger by one so I can work out the 10th pattern without building it.

I need to be able to use a formula to work out the 100th term in a spatial or number pattern

To achieve this goal, I can use letters to represent the term in a sequence that I get from looking at a table and building a formula.

I notice if I double the number of triangles and add 1, I get the number of matches needed so m = double p plus 1. Eg 3 x 2 = 6 plus 1 = 7.

Goal Setting in Algebra

My goal in algebra is to  find a Formula.

Algebra Reflection

Using the two tests, think about your strengths and which gaps you have sorted out. (goals you have achieved). To be completed at the end of the 3 weeks.

Talk to someone about:

  • How you achieved them (you could talk about how quickly you achieve them, some of the learning qualities that helped you achieve them.)

  • What strategies you now have to help you with algebraic problems. (use your rubric)

  • What worked well for your learning (what you did or what your teachers did)

  • What could have been better (what could you have done better? or what could your teachers have done better?)

Finally post on your Blog

An Example

Progress and what could have been better.

I was working on using tables to help me see patterns with numbers rather than having to build the next pattern when we were using matches. It was good to be able to build the next pattern just to check though. Having the materials definitely helped.

What could have been better was spending more time using graphs to help me predict number patterns and spending more time on formulas. I think I worked hard and definitely have better strategies like using tables that I didn’t have before. My teachers could have maybe done more teaching of real problems and less time doing worksheets.

fraction reflection By Ryan Phillips

Fraction Reflection

This is an opportunity for you to reflect on your Maths teaching and learning this week. You can then put it up on your blog.

As a Learner:

What did I learn during the two different lessons?

I don't think I learnt anything because they were both really easy.

What could have been better?

I think it could have been a little harder because I just knew everything in like 2 seconds.

What were the strengths of my / our teaching?

We were supporting them and making sure it was fun and enjoyable.

What could have been better?

Knowing the kahoot would work beforehand.

What did I learn from being an observer?

I was not here for the observing part.

Would you like the opportunity to teach children in another area of maths? Why or why not?

I would love to teach again I would want to teach more basic facts and multiplies then fractions.

Writing what one is better sports or music

I said sports and music are both the same. Because you could play sports inside and you could play music outside so technically you get the same amount of sunlight but which is better for you. Well sports is better in some ways because you're outside running around right but most music is played outside sitting down because they're so he heavy. Like the piano and drums but those two things give you good hand-eye coordination but catching the ball give you could head eye coordination. So I think music and sports are the same. Crops

Crops need to grow in a disced paddock. you need to plant the seeds a few days after you disced so the dirt can settle. you plant the seeds with a Cedar then disc it once more so you can cover the seeds up. and hope for some rain. wait a few months and then when it's ready to pick get someone to bale it for feed or just Hay. hey can be good for horses cows sheep goats and even rabbits.

12 things in Mr s pocket

12 things in Mrs S’s / Mr K’s pocket / Sponge Bob Square Pants - Choose an interesting character, who you could use for this piece of writing. Writing task: To think of 12 things that are either in Mr S’s or Mr K’s pocket or Sponge Bob Square Pants Focus: Punctuation and Sentences. Punctuation Success: OK: All sentences have capital letters and fullstops. Example: In Sponge Bob’s pockets there was a key. There was also rubber. Good: There are a range of other punctuation eg commas, question marks etc Example In Sponge Bob’s pocket there was a telescope. Why? This is so he could see where he was going. Excellent: I can use semicolons in a list. See example below Example - 12 things in Sponge Bob Square Pants Pocket. In Sponge Bob’s pocket you would find: Six crusty old crabby patties, in case he gets lost under the sea; an invite to Patrick Star’s 28th birthday party in case he forgets the address; ……. 12 things in Mr s pocket is essential to Mr s is Mr Barnacles; he always carries a magical unicorn horn; And His car keys but I don't know why because he has a magical unicorn horn that can make a run really fast; And he always keeps his Superfast writing pen his front left pocket that make a him right hole 8 page story and 10 seconds; And when he wakes up he always puts his joke book and his front right pocket and he's always prepared to read one and make you laugh always has his good old top hat in his pockets for the joke book; He also has his phone and his shirt pocket to make any emergency calls to Mrs s about his day; He always carries an extra Krusty Krab Patty and his pockets if he gets hungry; And of course he always has a football in case he gets bored; hey always carry sunglasses on those hot summer days; And he loves his unicorn head Mr ucillies; ain't nobody knows but he always has a rotten Mandarin in his pocket; And last but not least a guidebook to Ultimate frisbee

Ryan maths statistics reflection

My Maths Reflection on Learning in Statistics

What I’ve got better at or improved upon.

I now know I’m better at understanding what a bar graph is and how to draw one accurately. You can even use fractions and percentages to show them.

What I still need to work on:

l also have learnt about probability and that some events are more likely to occur or happen than others.

As we look at probabilty i still need work on persetjis

What I enjoyed and what could be better.

I really enjoyed the Kahoots since they were fun plus playing the number spinner games where you had to guess which number might come up.
